About the work
Risja Steeghs is a dutch artist working along the lines of sculpture, installation and performance. Her work focusses on the bed as a metaphor for the body’s becoming and its incessant qualities of rebirth. Within her work she explores notions of transformation, rebirth and how we as humans occupy space in this world.
She is interested in creating artwork and spaces which evoke a haptic, soft and sensuous relationship between viewer and artwork, often inviting them to enter personal spaces or putting herself in vulnerable states in front of an audience. This personal relationship between herself and her work is explored during short activations of the artworks through a performance. The moment where her body and the artwork meet is magnified through small acts of tender love and care for the artwork in front of an audience.
