About the work
For this work Deterritorialise the refrain, I wanted to create a condition in which there is a possibility to think, feel and connect to the way we live. I wanted to create a new experience through which free thinking has infinite potentials.
Deterritorialise the refrain focuses on the question of difference and change in social, cultural and natural terms. It questions the way these subjects can create a new composition through making. Difference creates opportunities for something new to happen. It provides the possibility for something impossible to become possible. In this day and age, it is urgent we make difference happen, as we are highly structured and formed. We need to embrace difference.
For this work I collected all the scrap metal from building sites around the university building in the King’s Cross estate. These scraps would usually be used to make something rigid and strong or left unused. Instead I have reshaped and created new forms - these three sculptures - to suggest that there are new and different ways to see, feel and think.
