Artist statement
I use a mixed media process to express the subjects in my works.
Part of my art practice consists of drawing, sound, and sculpture. Sounds are important too, they speak of something, sometimes of things we are unable to decipher or remind us of memories we have. I wonder how these sounds connect with the environment around, how I may incorporate them in a piece I will make.
Some of my works address distressful subjects, social or political situations that affect society. Other works are born from my personal fears and/or experiences, they sometimes crossover with wider society anxieties.I am also interested in the language we use, how we communicate, how communication has evolved; for example one of my pieces, ‘La Vucciria’ was concerned about the old oral tradition, in particular the “Abbaniate’, the calling outs in markets which were spoken in verse in countries across the Mediterranean; that have now been recorded.
