About the work
Because of her mixed origins and experience living in Post-Soviet society, Jolanta Basova is focused on how much can one's personality be changed to become a devoted member of society. Material possessions continuously create the identity of societies and cultures, various objects allow people to complete themselves. Artist in her art practice ignore physical distance between found object, materials, between herself and objects. These compositions, as she calls them, are conundrum about functionality and dis-functionality in society, it’s a way how identity can perform itself in society.
