Artist statement
'My practice explores the perceptions of liminal environments, such as the edgeland sites, which are the simultaneously wild and urban spaces that surround our cities. Through moving image, photography, found materials and writings, I create and experiment with archives derived from my explorations of these places, culminating in works that consciously engage with the multiple and often ambiguous producers of these sites. Through this process, the place and its producers mutually and continuously correspond to each other’s presence in becoming rhythmic and shape-shifting entities, whose meanings endlessly transform over time.
By exploring the relationships between the materiality of such places and its agents through durational process, the audience are invited to question and co-produce places they both observe and occupy. Creative improvisation practised through play, projections and the performativity of everyday materials in this context transform spaces into surfaces of tentative states, simultaneously revealing and concealing possible sites of restriction, freedom, prohibition and escape.'
